I know what you are thinking, “there is no goalie problem, Petr Mrazek is our goal tender now and that is that”. Yet, things don’t just work that easily in the NHL, or in any sport for that matter. The Red Wings have to figure out who is going to be their number one goal tender coming into the new season and while this might not happen way until the preseason starts, it needs to be looked at.
The team needs a plan for in case Mrazek comes into the preseason and is playing out of his mind and is as good as he was in the playoffs and throughout the regular season, what happens with Jimmy Howard. Do you keep him as a back up? Do you trade him before the season, or wait until the trade deadline? What can you get for him and if you do trade him who is your back up then?
