Which players should be promoted from Grand Rapids?
This is always an interesting subject for a team. Who do you bring up from your minor league system after seeing them maybe have some time in the big game or watching them play fully in the AHL. The Red Wings have been a team where if you are a player, you usually get drafted or signed. You play through the minors and then when you get to the Grand Rapids Griffins you play there until the team thinks you are ready to play in the NHL.

So the Red Wings rookies sometimes tend to be a bit older than most teams rookies. Players tend to spend at least one full season down in Grand Rapids before being brought up to the NHL. Which is a perfectly good way to go about things. If anything it keeps players who may not be fully ready for the NHL to get some AHL time under their belt and get them ready for what it will sort of be like in the big show.
Is Teemu Pulkkinen ready for the NHL? We got to see him play a few games this season with the club and he had a great season with the Griffins, signs are pointing to yes. Alexey Marchenko and Xavier Ouellet could easily be on this team next season and could be what helps the defense out. Both played well when with the team and Marchenko got some playing time in the playoffs with the team this year.
