Here is a former Red Wings assistant coach who could come back to the organization, only as head coach this time; Todd McLellan. McLellan was the head coach of the San Jose Sharks for the past 7 sevens before the two mutual agreed to part ways after this season. He was the head coach in Sharks history before the team and himself parted ways.
He never did however, win a Stanley Cup or a Jack Adams award. He quietly finished first or second in the Pacific division. The managed to exited the playoffs in choking fashion in the first two rounds, or would make it to the Conference finals and then lose in sweeping fashion. So while he may not seem to have the best playoff time, he does play in a very difficult Western Conference. A conference where the L.A. Kings and Chicago Balckhawks come out of seemingly nowhere and go on great Playoff runs.
Maybe being back with a team that once helped him get into the head coaching spot, he could do better.
