Doyle Alexander

Okay, I know I’m going to get crap for this one, but just hear me out. I’m not saying hate him for anything he did as a player. Or even hate him for anything he did off the field, just hate him for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and causing the Detroit Tigers to make a huge mistake when it came to trading for him.

Alexander was brought to the Tigers by a trade midway through the 1987 season. The player the Braves got out of the deal? John Smoltz. Yes, 8 time all-star, NL Cy Young award winner, 1995 World Series Champion, John Smoltz. Smoltz was drafted by the Tigers in 22nd round of the 1985 amateur draft and they never got to see what he ended up becoming. Well, they did, but he was with the Braves by then.

While hate might be a bit of a too harsh of a word to feel towards Alexander because he did help the Tigers out when they needed. Yet, it would have been great to see what the team would have looked like in the 90’s had they had an ace like Smoltz was on the roster.
