The Detroit Tigers called up Josh Wilson to take Hernan Perez’s spot on the roster. Perez was lost on a waiver claim by the Brewers in the process.
It’s a day of roster moves for the Detroit Tigers. We passed along the news earlier today that outfield prospect Daniel Fields was being called up for a few days while Rajai Davis hits the paternity list. Now we received word that the Tigers were calling up veteran journeyman infielder Josh Wilson to replace Hernan Perez on the roster.
The Tigers today have purchased the contract of INF Josh Wilson and also recalled the contract of OF Daniel Fields from Triple A Toledo.

Perez was out of minor league option years, so removing him from the active roster always meant designating him for assignment and subjecting him to the waiver wire. The Milwaukee Brewers scooped him up immediately.

It always kinda sucks to lose a player like that — especially a player who still has some youth and depth value to the franchise — but Perez had not made the most of his opportunity and was acting as a drain on the Tigers’ roster.
Josh Wilson, unfortunately, shouldn’t be expected to perform much better. The 34-year old had been having a nice year at the plate in AAA with a .291/.350/.362 batting line, but his career major league line, in over 1,100 plate appearances, is just .226/.278/.316. He’ll provide solid defensive flexibility around the infield as a utility guy, but probably nothing more.
The Tigers are expected to make a third move today to activate Alfredo Simon, the scheduled starting pitcher, from the bereavement list. Likely candidates to be sent to the minor leagues in that move include Kyle Ryan and Buck Farmer.
