If I had a front-runner for who I wanted the Red Wings to go after Matt Beleskey would be the guy. He is a very physical player that has been lighting it up for the Ducks since he has been there. He had his best offensive year this past season netting 32 points on 22 goals and 10 assists. He is also still young, he turns 27 this month. Yet, what I like the most about him is his ability to play rough and tough hockey and that he has played in the Western Conference for his entire NHL hockey career.

No offense to the Eastern Conference or anything, but the West is where a good number of the big hitting players and teams are. It is fun to watch games from the West because it just seems like they have zero care to what they hit as long as it isn’t their own player. Being able to score and land the big hits is the reasons teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and L.A. Kings have won the Stanley Cup the last four seasons.
Adding a player like Beleskey I think will help the Red Wings be a more physical team. They at times seem to lack the physical aspect of the game and more so rely on their scoring ability. Which while not bad, doesn’t help you much when you go against teams that have the same if not better scoring ability than you and can also hit you into the ground.
