Yesterday the National Hockey League released the home opener for every team and the Detroit Red Wings found out they would be playing former coach Mike Babcock and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Today the rest of the 2015-16 schedule, including the preseason games were released. You can check out the entire schedule at the Red Wings official site.

Interesting games

Stadium Series against the Colorado Avalanche

There is nothing better than watching the Red Wings take on the hated Colorado Avalanche. Growing up, fans of the Red Wings were taught to hate the team from the mile high city. Who can’t remember the 90’s when the teams were at each others throats. These two teams are the only teams I ever saw where the goalies actually fought along with everyone else, and they did that twice.

It will be nice to revisit this old rivalry and is the outdoors game I’m excited for on February 27, 2016.

Early trip out west in Canada

The team takes an early trip to Western Canada and that will be a treat to watch. From October 21st, 23rd and 24th the Red Wings will take on the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and the Vancouver Canucks. Which means us fans get to see potential first overall pick Connor McDavid which is something as just a hockey fan, I’ll watch this season. However it is also the Red Wings first out west road trip and to see the team win two or maybe sweep it would be great.

Home and home with the Chicago Blackhawks

An original six match up that I will stop everything for just to watch is games against the Blackhawks. March 2nd the team will take on the Blackhawks at home, then, March 6th will head to the United Center to take them on again. These games are always fun because sometimes the Red Wings are really impressive and win them both. These games will be interesting because seeing what the Blackhawks look like at the end of the season is intriguing.

If anything it is just another fun original six game that will draw you in.

Any time the Red Wings play the Maple Leafs

This will for sure be the games that everyone will be watching and media will write-up every story they can think of for this one. Yet the game isn’t going to be popular because it is an original six match up or because the Maple Leafs are just big rivals of ours, it will be because of Mike Babcock.

With Babcock leaving for Toronto, fans are split, some understand, some hate him, but all will be watching when he takes on the Red Wings.

Really the whole season is exciting and worth watching. What games are you excited for? Let us know below and don’t forget to stay connected to Detroit Jock City for all your Detroit Red Wings news.
