Detroit Tigers: David Price Trade Rumor Roundup

At least four teams have reportedly expressed interest in Detroit Tigers starting pitcher David Price.

The Detroit Tigers haven’t yet decided to sell in 2015, but they’re currently a game below .500 and four games out of the second Wild Card spot with just five games left to play until the non-waiver trade deadline. It certainly seems like they need to use the remaining games to go on an extended winning streak in order to stay in the postseason race.

If the Tigers do find themselves out of the race at deadline time, they do have a number of players that would be of interest to contending teams. Headlining that list, of course, is ace left-handed starting pitcher David Price.

Price would be the top pitching name on the market if he’s made available with teams preferring either him or non-rental Cole Hamels above anyone else. With Johnny Cueto now off the trade market, there should be plenty of organizations gunning to add a starter of Price’s caliber.

Jon Morosi of Fox Sports has tweeted of other teams’ interest several times over the past couple days. Clubs to reportedly covet Price include the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, and Chicago Cubs.

It’s also possible that the New York Yankees would be involved in the bidding. Joel Sherman tweets that they’re listening on “all big starting pitchers.”

Price is scheduled to pitch for the Tigers in Tampa on Tuesday. For now it looks like he’ll make that start, but it’s possible that the Detroit front office declares themselves out of contention and makes a trade late Monday or early Tuesday.

In order for that to happen, however, the Tigers would probably need to lose both Sunday’s and Monday’s games and fall further below the .500 mark.
