Detroit Tigers Trade Rumors: Astros Mulling a Push for David Price
By Matt Snyder
Last night we heard that the Dodgers were “saving bullets” to make a push for Detroit Tigers starting pitcher David Price. They still would appear to be front runner in trade talks, but today we hear more confirmation that the Astros have been in contact with the Tigers with regard to Price as well.
Jeff Luhnow, Astros general manager, confirmed to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale that they’re still considering making a push to acquire Price from the Tigers.
"“A player like him that would be valuable for not only the next two months, but the next three months,” Luhnow says of Price, “could probably command a pretty high premium, irrespective of what your chances are of signing him.”“We’re not ruling anything out.”"

The Astros appear to have a nice long window of competitiveness ahead of them, so they’re understandably averse to trading away too much of that future for a one-off shot at a championship this season.
If they do decide to participate in the potential bidding war, they would certainly seem to have the system depth to work out a nice return package to dangle in front of the Tigers.
The Astros are an interesting potential addition to the Price bidding, but it sounds like, based on the reports we’re seeing, most members of the media expect the Dodgers to pony up big and be the eventual sweepstakes winners.
Stay tuned. The deadline isn’t until Friday, but, if Wednesday night was any indication, things could move quickly on Thursday if the Tigers see a package they like.
