Will a third dependable cornerback emerge?

Darius Slay and Rashean Mathis give the Lions a capable pair of cornerbacks on the outside. What happens inside and for depth behind Slay and Mathis remains unclear.

Nevin Lawson showed some promise as a nickel corner last year but lost much of his rookie season due to a foot injury suffered early in the season. Josh Wilson gives the Lions a veteran option if Lawson isn’t ready to grab control as the primary nickel, and 2015 sixth round draft pick Quandre Diggs could figure into the team’s 2015 plans inside or out.

2015 third round pick Alex Carter has the inside track to step in for Slay or Mathis should there be an injury, but is another question mark as he enters his first NFL training camp.

Like at defensive end, the Lions will need at least one cornerback to step up. There are options, but it remains to be seen who emerges as the guy called upon when the season begins.
