Third Tier Fantasy Football Quarterbacks

5. Drew Brees

Drew Brees, 36, showed some signs of aging in 2015, but New Orleans’ pass-heavy attack helped keep his fantasy numbers among the top half of quarterbacks. The loss of Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks will hurt his value, and his days among the quarterbacking elite are behind him, but expect Brees to have another solid year in 2015. Target Round: 5

6. Matt Ryan

Matt Ryan is a polarizing fantasy football figure. It seems like every year he’s either touted as a potential top-four fantasy quarterback or labeled as a bust. He’s properly valued as a solid starting option, but not one you should reach for in the draft. Ryan should provide solid starter value below the level of the elites in the first and second tiers. Target Round: 5

7. Cam Newton

Cam Newton has, perhaps, the most explosive skill set of any quarterback in the group, but, unfortunately, he has seen his fantasy production decline each year he’s been in the league. His production totals are somewhat dependent on the value of his legs, so potential fantasy owners should make sure he’s made it through the preseason healthy before pulling the trigger. Target Round: 5

8. Ben Roethlisberger

Ben Roethlisberger had a resurgent season at the age of 32 in 2014, but don’t overdraft him expecting a repeat season (he set career highs in completion percentage, yards, and matched his previous high in touchdowns). He’ll likely to regress back toward his career norms but still appears to be a solid top-10 option at quarterback. Target Round: 6

9. Tony Romo

Tony Romo ranked 23rd among NFL quarterbacks in passing attempts in 2014, but his high level of accuracy (69.9% completion rate) and a league-leading 8.5 yards per attempts kept his value strong. Not elite in any way, but he remains a reasonable starting option or a terrific backup if he falls in your draft. Target Round: 6
