Fourth Tier Fantasy Football Quarterbacks

10. Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick’s passing touchdown total aren’t where they need to be to make him a particularly safe bet as your starting quarterback, but he improved his completion percentage and yardage totals in his second full year as a starter. His legs provide excellent secondary value, but he’ll need to turn that into touchdowns (just one rushing TD a year ago) in order to reach his full fantasy potential. Target Round: 7

11. Tom Brady

Tom Brady’s four-game suspension bumps him down a tier or two in the rankings. He’ll help you out come fantasy playoff time, but you’ll need to handcuff yourself with one of the top backups or lower-tier starters to get through the first five weeks of the season (New England’s bye week is week four). Target Round: 7-8

12. Ryan Tannehill

Ryan Tannehill has improved his completion percentage, his yardage total, and his touchdown totals in each of his three years as a professional. That’s not a trend with an upper bound at infinity, but he does have chance to be a top-10 quarterback by the end of the season. Snatch him up as a backup if he’s available. Target Round: 7-8

13. Philip Rivers

Philip Rivers has put together two solid seasons after his numbers has dipped in 2012, but his upside is still limited to that of a fringe-starting fantasy option. Target Round: 7-8

14. Matthew Stafford

If you’re reading this blog, you most likely have a Detroit-focused sports mindset. Don’t be the guy or girl that overvalues his hometown players. Those people never win their leagues. Matthew Stafford is who he is: a high-quantity passer who will pile up yardage, but it’s going to come with a relatively low completion percentage, inconsistent touchdown totals, and a potentially high number of interceptions. Target Round: 7-8

15. Eli Manning

Being a younger brother myself, I liked to pretend that Eli Manning was a persistent fantasy football sleeper, but, as we all know, that is simply not true. Take him if you need a backup and you’re set elsewhere on the field. Target Round: 8
