The Boston Red Sox announced a front office shakeup last night, hiring former Detroit Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski to serve as the president of their baseball operations department. Current general manager Ben Cherington will step down from his role.
WEEI in Boston had this quote from Dombrowski about the new opportunity:

"“Although I did have other potential options within baseball, there was no option that stood out as clearly as the chance to come to Boston and win with the Red Sox,” Dombrowski said in the release. “Boston is a baseball city like no other and its history and traditions are unique in our game. I expressed to John and Tom that Boston would be my absolute top choice.”"
According to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit News, Dombrowski will not attempt to run everything himself like he did in Detroit. He plans on hiring a general manager to work with him (and under him).
Many Tigers fans — myself included — have fond feelings and memories associated with the Dombrowski-era Tigers, but I’m guessing the love will fade quickly if (when) the Red Sox start having some success.
It would have been one thing if he ended up winning a World Series with, say, the Angels, but the idea of him hoisting a trophy with the Red Sox is about enough to make me throw up. I wish Dombrowski the best, but I wish for nothing but losses for the Red Sox franchise.
It’s been 199 days since a Boston-area team won a championship in a major professional sport. This constitutes an extended drought for them, I suspect.
