It was a mixed bag of results for the Detroit Lions in their preseason loss to the Washington Redskins last night. The first team offense and defense looked adequate in their limited play but things got sloppy as the Lions went down the depth chart.
Here is a look at what is being said about the game around the internet.
Jim Caldwell irked by Detroit Lions’ penalty issues in presason loss to Washington
Justin Rogers – MLive.com
"In the Detroit Lions’ preseason opener, a 23-3 victory against the New York Jets, the team committed just three penalties. Against Washington Thursday night that number tripled as the Lions were flagged nine times in the 21-17 loss. That’s something that didn’t sit well with Lions coach Jim Caldwell."
Orlovsky gets leg up on Moore for backup QB job
Josh Katzenstein – The Detroit News
"Orlovsky won the backup job last year after re-signing with the team that drafted him in 2005, but with Moore entering his fourth season, the coaches have created a much more open competition than in 2014 as the two alternated working with the second- and third-team offenses in training camp. Moore worked with the second team in the first exhibition game. Orlovsky earned that nod this week and said losing some second-team work to Moore hasn’t impacted him."
3 Problems the Detroit Lions Are Already Finding Solutions for
Brandon Alisoglu — Bleacher Report
"No team can skate through an offseason and fix all of its problems. The salary cap mandates parity for all by poking holes in every franchise. The Detroit Lions are no exception. The departure of Ndamukong Suh brought a host of unknowns to Detroit’s Allen Park doorstep, and the offense has been a work in progress since head coach Jim Caldwell took over. But the Lions started working these challenges last March. And the solutions started to rise to the surface during the preseason Week 2 loss to the Washington Redskins."
Ameer Abdullah has quiet night after stealing show in debut
Josh Alper – Pro Football Talk
"He ran twice for seven yards and returned a punt for no yards while playing a limited number of snaps against the Redskins.“There was circumstances within the ballgame, just kind of the flow of things and how they go,” Lions coach Jim Caldwell said, via the Detroit Free Press. “There’ll be games like that, particularly when you’re only playing a limited amount of time.”"
