A quick look at the potential lineup starts at quarterback. During Saturday’s scrimmage, graduate-transfer quarterback Jake Rudock took most of the snaps, while junior QB Shane Morris played second-fiddle. 6-6 Wilton Speight picked up the pieces, and will most likely be Michigan’s third-string signal caller.

It’s been expected that Rudock wins the starting job on experience alone. Over the past two seasons, the 6-3, 208 lb. Rudock started 25 of the Hawkeyes’ 26 games. He’s earned the reputation of a solid, if not spectacular signal caller. In 2014, he completed 213-345 passes for 2,436 yards and 16 touchdowns—with just five interceptions.

“He’s smart, he’s diligent, he looks good,” said passing game coordinator Jedd Fisch. “He’s a very polished kid. He impressed me when he came out. And most importantly, when we brought him from Iowa, he doesn’t turn the ball over and he doesn’t take sacks. If you don’t do those two things, then good things come your way.

Morris, meanwhile had a very good spring and is still in the fight. Don’t be surprised if both play at Utah.
