13.  Wayne Walker (linebacker) – For lucky #13, it’s time to honor a Lions player who has the distinction of being the worst field goal kicker (lowest all-time field goal percentage) in the history of the NFL.

I kid you not.  But Wayne Walker has not made this list of best Lions draft picks due to his kicking ability, or rather inability (incidentally it should be noted that while Walker was a career 40% field goal kicker, he made 172 out of 175 PATs, which isn’t too shabby).

Wayne Walker is on the list for his long career as a solid linebacker. He was selected by the Lions with the 45th overall pick (4th round) in the 1958.  Another “Lion for life”, Walker played his entire career with Detroit, from 1958-1972.

He went on to become a three-time Pro Bowl selection.  Walker was voted the Lions defensive MVP in 1968.  He compiled 14 career interceptions, and scored two touchdowns (once interception and once fumble return) as well.  He is also ranks second all-time for games played in Lions history (behind Jason Hanson).

While Walker might be remembered in the NFL record books as the worst kicker in history, Lions fans should remember him for a solid, versatile, and consistent career.
