With the Detroit Lions set to take on the San Francisco 49ers in week 16 of the 2015 NFL Season, here is all the important info you need for today’s game.

The Detroit Lions could have easily packed in it to coast through the second half of the season after starting 1-7 but that isn’t what they have done. They dropped a clunker in St. Louis and a heartbreaker at home to the Packers but the brand of ball the Lions are playing in the second half is far superior to that that they put on the field in the first half.

That was on display in last week’s win over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football as Matthew Stafford set a franchise record for completion percentage (min. 20 attempts) at 88%. His 148.6 quarterback rating was the highest of his career.

After hearing from doubters earlier this season, Stafford is making it clear the Lions’ path to success involves improving what is around the quarterback rather than the quarterback positions itself.

The Saints made a run to make it a close game in the second half but the Lions defense held the Saints offense down long enough to avoid another disappointment.

Now back in Detroit for their final home game of the 2015 season, the Lions have a very beatable opponent before them. The San Francisco 49ers’ spiral downward started last season and continued through the offseason and into this season. The “franchise quarterback” label has fallen off Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers instead turned to former first round bust Blaine Gabbert. An inexplicable thought a year ago, perhaps even more surprising is the fact that is has looked like the right move.

That being said, calling it the right move just goes to show how far Kaepernick and the 49ers offense had fallen rather than anything else. This remains a bad football team and a poor offense. It’s just a little better and less poor.
