Central Michigan Football: Quick Lane Bowl Gameday
By Zac Snyder
The Central Michigan Chippewas are set to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the 2015 Quick Lane Bowl. Get all the important gameday information here.
The state of Michigan is off to a 1-0 start to the 2015 bowl season thanks to Western Michigan getting the program’s first-ever bowl win on Christmas Eve by beating Middle Tennessee in the Bahamas Bowl. Next up is the Central Michigan football team in the state’s only bowl game – the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit.
This is just the second year for the Quick Lane Bowl but the Chippewas are no strangers to playing bowl games in Detroit. They appeared in four Motor City/Little Caesars Pizza Bowls from 2006-2012, including three in a row from 2006-2008.
For the second time in Central Michigan bowl history they get an opponent from the Big Ten. The Chippewas played a memorable 2008 Motor City Bowl against Purdue but came up on the wrong end of a 51-48 final score. Standing in the way this time will be the Minnesota Golden Gophers. It’s a foe from a bigger conference but the Chippewas won’t be intimidated having already faced the likes of Oklahoma State, Michigan State and Syracuse in non-conference play.
The Golden Gophers will be looking to put a positive end on a difficult season. Losers of five of their final six games of the season, Minnesota underwent a surprise coaching change during the season when head coach Jerry Kill had to resign for health reasons. Some consistency was maintained with Kill’s longtime assistant, Tracy Claeys, taking over as head coach but that can’t totally make up for a difficult situation.
The seasons for both teams end today, but only one ends with a win.
