The Detroit Lions hired Ernie Accorsi to assist in their search for a new general manager but the relationship won’t end following the hiring of Bob Quinn.
Ernie Accorsi was hired to assist the Detroit Lions in their search for a new general manager but with that search now over, the relationship will continue.
The Lions’ general manager position was filled with Friday evening’s announcement that New England Patriots personnel man Bob Quinn would be leaving the defending champions for the Detroit Lions. The Lions moved quickly to secure Quinn’s services after he emerged as one of the names at or near the top of Accorsi’s list.
But while the hiring of Quinn ends the job Accorsi was initially brought on to do, he will be staying on as a special adviser to team president Rod Wood.
Not too much should probably be made of this news considering it is a part time arranagement that will not see Accorsi hold a Michigan-based office. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Accorsi will continue to be based in New York but be available to the Lions on an as needed basis.
Though the role is small, it adds a respected voice to the organization at a time of uncertainty and perhaps big turnover. Rod Wood is new to the business of football in his role as team president and Bob Quinn is a first-time general manager, not to mention that there may be a change in the team’s head coach.
