The Michigan Wolverines, who are coming off their first loss of the conference season (an 87-70 defeat at the hands of the Purdue Boilermakers), are hoping to make a statement in tonight’s home matchup with the No. 3 Maryland Terrapins.

Unfortunately for Michigan, they’re unlikely to have team leader Caris LeVert back for the game. He has not been practicing with the team this week, according to MLive’s Brendan F. Quinn.

"Beilein said Monday that LeVert is experiencing “less pain,” but is not practicing in order to “let the healing try to complete itself.”LeVert had practiced in the middle of last week to attempt to play at Purdue. He participated in a day-of shootaround in West Lafayette, but experienced pain and did not dress for what was an 87-70 loss."

Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman has seen a large uptick in minutes (34.5) and offensive production (19.5 points per game) in LeVert’s absence, but the Wolverines were thin on scorers against Purdue last week. Abdur-Rahkman paced the team with 25 points, Derrick Walton chipped in 12, and Duncan Robinson 10. Five players saw game action off the bench, but the group contributed just nine points to the team’s total.

The road ahead doesn’t get any easier for the Wolverines. They’re scheduled to make the trek to Iowa City on Sunday to take on the No. 16 Hawkeyes in what will be their third-straight game against a ranked opponent.
