The Detroit Pistons host the Chicago Bulls for a Martin Luther King Day matinee at the Palace of Auburn Hills with commissioner Adam Silver in attendance.

The celebrations continue in Auburn Hills. Just two days after celebrating the Pistons career of Ben Wallace by raising his number 3 to The Palace rafters, the Detroit Pistons will host the division rival Chicago Bulls for a Martin Luther King day matinee.

The Pistons-Bulls game is one of five that will be played earlier than the usual evening game times for a weekday game. While this one won’t be televised nationally, it will have a big audience in the form of commissioner Adam Silver.

If this meeting between the Pistons and Bulls is anything like the first two meetings of the season, Silver will be in for quite the show. The Pistons trail the Bulls by a game and a half in the standings but they hold a 2-0 lead in the season series. That sounds good, and it is, but it hardly tells the story of how hotly contested the games between these two teams have been.

The Pistons moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 98-94 overtime win over the Bulls at home, followed by a 147-144 win in quadruple overtime in Chicago on December 18. That’s two wins in two games for the Pistons over the Bulls, but it took more than two and a half game’s worth of playing time to make it happen.
