3. Safety

Glover Quin is a cornerstone on defense but the Lions don’t have someone to start alongside him in 2016. James Ihedigbo and Isa Abdul-Quddus are set to become free agents.

The Lions will have salary cap space at their disposal but can do well with value plays to pair with Quin. Re-signing Abdul-Quddus, who is younger and played better than Ihedigbo, should be the plan A with a draft pick or low cost free agent added for depth.

Abdul-Quddus isn’t a household name, even with some Lions fans, but he rated out as a top 20 safety last season according to Pro Football Focus. He is in line for a raise over the $1.5 million he made last season but the Lions won’t have to break the bank to keep him in Detroit.

The only problem is that until they do, safety is a major need.
