Who’s on Michigan radar today?

(in order of perceived preference)

Rashan Gary, defensive end/tackle, Paramus Catholic (Paramus, NJ)
Final Schools: Michigan and Clemson
Announcing: 1:00 on ESPN2
My prediction: Michigan
My reasoning: The consensus number one player in the country has been tied to Michigan for a long time and I don’t see a late push from Clemson being able to offer enough to sway this line of thinking. Gary’s two best friends Kareem Walker and Michael Dwumfour are already committed to Michigan, he’s also good friends with Jabrill Peppers, and his former coach Chris Patridge is now coaching Michigan’s linebackers. Gary is an impressive kid both on and off the field and would be an incredible addition for Harbaugh and Michigan.

Lavert Hill, cornerback, Martin Luther King (Detroit, MI)
Final Schools: Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State
Announcing: 9:00 at King High School
My prediction: Michigan
My reasoning: Lavert is the brother of Michigan starting safety Delano Hill and a former Penn State commit. He decommitted late November and Michigan became the front-runner. His best friend Donnie Corely is committed to Michigan State and they have made a late push for him. With three of Michigan’s top cornerbacks graduating after next year Lavert will have a chance to see the field in 2016 to gain experience for a larger role in 2017 pairing opposite of David Long. He would also have the opportunity to play with his brother, something he’s never done. Lavert’s game is very similar to Jordan Lewis.

Devin Asiasi, tight end, De La Salle (Concord, CA)
Final Schools: Michigan, USC, UCLA, Alabama, Washington
Announcing: 3:00 on ESPN2
My prediction: Michigan
My reasoning: Devin and Boss Tagaloa (next on my watch list) have seemed to be destined to commit to the same school. For the most part they’ve taken their visits together and when they make announcements they always use the word “We”. As of late its been speculated that they may split up despite their previous actions. If this is true, there a good chance it’s because Asiasi is committing to Michigan. Recent insider information has given me enough confidence to predict him to Michigan. An absolute stud at the tight end spot, he will be an early contributor. Think AJ Williams but more athletic.

Boss Tagaloa, defensive tackle, De La Salle (Concord, CA)
Final Schools: Michigan, USC, UCLA, Washington
Announcing: 3:00 on ESPN2
My prediction: UCLA
My reasoning: While I still think the De La Salle boys want to play together, Tagaloa’s family has been rumored to prefer he to stay home so his commitment to Michigan is less likely than Asiasi’s. Michigan has a need at defensive tackle following the decommitment of Jordan Elliot and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some Harbaugh magic here. I hope he proves my prediction wrong.

Victor Viramontes, athlete (dual-threat quarterback/linebacker), Norco (Norco, CA)
Final Schools: Michigan, California, Arizona
Announcing: 4:00
My prediction: Michigan
My reasoning: This is one of the tougher calls of the day for me. He decommitted from Michigan under the suspicion that Harbaugh wasn’t going to let him try out at quarterback. Those rumors have been denied by a Michigan source and now they’re back in the mix. California has made is clear he’d be a quarterback only to them and that assurance may be to good for him to pass up. I believe conversations between Viramontes and Harbaugh have made him comfortable enough about getting a shot at quarterback, while also being realistic about a possible position switch. Viramontes is too good of an athlete to pass on, especially when you consider he could be Harbaugh’s new version of Collin Kaepernick.

Conner Murphy, defensive end, Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, AZ)
Final Schools: Michigan, USC, Arizona State
Announcing: 11:30
My prediction: USC
My reasoning: The younger brother of Trent Murphy, who play under Harbaugh at Stanford, has long looked to be headed to Michigan but something was holding him back. Rumor is he may be having trouble gaining admission but he’s been diligently working on correcting it. Has he done enough or run out of time? To tough to call so I’m playing it safe with my prediction, but if he has things in order he’s like a lock to pick Michigan.

Quinn Nordin, kicker, Rockford (Rockford, MI)
Final Schools: Michigan, USC, Penn State
Announcing: 11:00
My prediction: Michigan
My reasoning: With rumors of him flipping to Michigan, Penn State secured another kicker. Former Michigan and current Special Teams coach John Baxter at USC also tried to flip him but the secured a kicker yesterday. With no more obstacles in the way it looks like Michigan can complete the flip its been working on for months and land the top kicker in the nation.

Alaric Jackson, offensive tackle, Renaissamce (Detroit, MI)
Final Schools: Michigan, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska
Announcing: To Be Determined
My prediction: Michigan
My reasoning: Set to make his commitment to Iowa on Monday, Michigan offered at the eleventh hour and he promptly delayed his announcement until signing day. He has been connected to Michigan for a few months but Michigan didn’t offer until it lost Devery Hamilton over the weekend.

Keyshawn “Pie” Young, wide receiver/defensive back, Miami Senior (Miami, FL)
Final schools: Michigan, Louisville, USC
Announcing: 1:00
My prediction: Louisville
My reasoning: Rumor is he’s tried to commit to Michigan twice but was asked to wait and now there’s not a spot for him. Same spot issue at USC, leaving Louisville with a nice player. Michigan is only watching him if someone from the lists above, like Nate Johnson, doesn’t commit and opens up a spot.

More from Detroit Jock City

There will be several players that will have a Michigan hat on their decision table but it would be a shocker for them to land at Michigan. Some of those players will include: Mecole Hardman (athlete, announcing at 8:30 am, my prediction: Georgia), Dontavious Jackson (inside linebacker, 10:00, prediction: Texas), Jacob Mathis (tight end, 10:00, prediction: Ole Miss), Jonathan Jones (outside linebacker, 10:30, prediction: Notre Dame), and E.J. Price (offensive tackle, 2:45, prediction: Georgia)
