It is Chauncey Billups jersey retirement night as the Detroit Pistons host the Denver Broncos before heading into the NBA All-Star Break.
The Detroit Pistons are a team in need of a break. The good news is that they will get as the All-Star break is nearly here, but up first is a home game against the Denver Nuggets.
But this isn’t just any home game; it’s Chauncey Billups jersey retirement night.
The Pistons honored Ben Wallace earlier in the year and now it is his teammate from the Pistons 2004 championship team’s turn to see his number head to the Palace rafters.
The Pistons and Nuggets complete their two-game season series tonight with the Nuggets looking to make it a sweep. A dreadful third quarter in which the Pistons were outscored 39-20 was their undoing in losing 104-101 in Denver last month.
The terrible third quarter could have been forgotten after the Pistons came back to take a late lead but they couldn’t hold it. Danilo Gallinari scored a game-high 30 points with none bigger than his basket with under 24 seconds to give the Nuggets a 102-101 lead.
A win guarantees the Pistons head into the All-Star break in playoff position in the Eastern Conference while a loss could see them drop behind the Charlotte Hornets and into ninth place.
