The Detroit Red Wings look to finish the season sweep of the New York Islanders. The Red Wings are coming off a thrilling win yesterday.

The Detroit Red Wings won a very exciting game against the Boston Bruins yesterday 6-5. For the first time all season, Petr Mrazek had a poor game but the Red Wings offense bailed him out.

Of all the times Mrazek bailed out the Red Wings this season, he was due for a poor game and even Sunday, in my opinion, three of the goals weren’t his fault.

The important thing is the Red Wings got two points while the Bruins skated away with nothing. With the Panthers being idle yesterday and the Red Wings getting two points, the Red Wings are now just three points back of the Panthers for the Atlantic Division lead.

The Red Wings now head to Brooklyn to face the Islanders who have yet to beat Detroit. Jimmy Howard is getting the start this afternoon as it is the back end of a back to back.

Jimmy Howard needs to have a good game this afternoon to build up his confidence. He also hasn’t had much puck luck though in the last few games he’s started.

The Islanders had their three game winning streak snapped on Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Islanders are in desperate need for a win, especially having to face the best team in the NHL on Wednesday in the Washington Capitals.

Jimmy Howard is going to face an Islander offense that is currently 6th best in the league. The Red Wings need to help out Howard and the defense by mostly staying out of the penalty box. The Islanders are the 2nd best power play in the league.
