Anibal Sanchez

News broke out of Lakeland, Florida earlier in the week that Anibal Sanchez was experiencing soreness again in his right arm.

It’s nothing new to Sanchez, as he has had several stints on the disabled list over the past three seasons with several different injuries occurring in his throwing arm. Sanchez headed to the DL in August of 2015 due to a rotator cuff strain in his right arm.

He was inconsistent all year long, finishing with a 10-10 record with a 4.99 ERA. If Sanchez can remain healthy in the upcoming season and return to 2013 form, in which he ended with 14 wins and 202 strikeouts, the Tigers can rely on Sanchez to provide consistency and depth in the starting rotation.

Sanchez is expected to slide into the third spot in the starting rotation behind Verlander and newly-acquired Jordan Zimmermann. Mike Pelfrey and Daniel Norris are the projected fourth and fifth starters of the staff.
