Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Game Time, TV, Radio, Live Stream
By Mike Rizzo
The Detroit Red Wings look to sweep their three game home-stand as they welcome Mike Babcock and the Toronto Maple Leafs to Joe Louis Arena.
The Detroit Red Wings wrap up a three game home-stand tonight as they look to extend their winning streak to three games. The Red Wings won a thrilling game yesterday against the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime.
The Rangers led for most of the game until Darren Helm scored early in the third period. The Rangers would make it 2-1 late in the third on a redirected shot that beat Petr Mrazek.
The Red Wings pulled Mrazek while on the power play with two minutes left. The Rangers nearly ended the game twice, they hit the post on one attempt and just missed the net on the very next play.
Brad Richards made the Rangers pay as with 32 seconds left he put the loose puck in the net to beat Henrik Lundqvist and force overtime.
In the exciting overtime the Red Wings won thanks to a shot by Pavel Datsyuk that was redirected by Darren Helm for his second goal of the game.
Henrik Ludqvist kept the Rangers in the game as the Red Wings came out with a much better effort compared to Thursday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.
This game wasn’t without bad news though as Niklas Kronwall left the game in the second period with a knee injury after Andreas Athanasiou got tangled up with him.
Damien Cox from Sportsnet said Kronwall is out two to four weeks, and the Red Wings will call up Xavier Ouellet on Monday. So Kronwall should be back for the Red Wings playoff run.
Tonight, the Red Wings face the rebuilding Toronto Maple Leafs who have the worst record in the league. Former Red Wings coach Mike Babcock is in his first year with the Leafs and while I believe he will eventually win with the Leafs, they are a long way away from being competitive.
This is a game the Red Wings should win if they play the way they played yesterday. The Red Wings in fact with the exception of that first period against the Jets have played really well on this home-stand.
Jimmy Howard is my guess to be the starter tonight as this is the back end of a back to back for the Red Wings. Howard has played well lately so the Red Wings definitely have confidence in him.
