The Atlanta Hawks make their first of two visits to The Palace during the Detroit Pistons nine-game homestand.

The Detroit Pistons return from a four-game road trip having gone 2-2 while away from home. That isn’t a terrible result on the surface but the details of the trip tell a far worse tale.

With the two losses coming to fellow Eastern Conference playoff contenders in the Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards, the Pistons find themselves percentage points back of the Chicago Bulls for the final playoff spot in the East. To make matters worse, the Pistons weren’t competitive in either game, especially a 43-point drubbing by the Wizards.

Reggie Jackson described the blowout loss as feeling like a forfeit. It was an embarrassment, to be sure, but it has to be quickly forgotten with the Atlanta Hawks in town tonight.

It may be now or never for the Pistons playoff hopes as they get a franchise-high nine-game homestand underway. The homestand is so long that the Hawks come to town twice before the Pistons set out for the road again. There will be just six regular season games remaining when this homestand ends – four on the road and two at home.

It will be a while before specific games turn in to must wins but Pistons can’t afford to hover around .500 during this homestand and expect to make the playoffs.
