The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is known as March Madness for a reason. Upsets happen every year, and millions of brackets fall by the wayside as a result. A successful bracket can be defined by two traits:

1. Correctly picking a couple poorly seeded teams to pull off an upset.
2. Accuracy in Final Four picks

That’s no easy task as it takes a combination of predicting which highly seeded teams will avoid an upset to make a deep run and which highly seeded will fall victim to a Cinderella story. There is never a guarantee you will beat out a bracket picked based on school colors, mascots or “I knew someone who went there”, but there is enough information out there to make an educated guess of the chaos we know is coming.

Using a consensus combination of the KenPom Ratings, the Massey Ratings, and the FiveThirtyEight Predictions, I’ve come up with a list of the ‘best’ mathematical picks for this year’s tournament.
