The Detroit Red Wings face the Pittsburgh Penguins this afternoon at the Joe. The Red Wings are coming off a thrilling win on Thursday against Montreal.

The Detroit Red Wings beat the Canadiens in a game that was a lot closer then most fans wanted. After Anthony Mantha scored his first career goal to give the Red Wings a 4-0 lead, the Canadiens scored three straight goals to get within a goal.

The Red Wings thankfully held on to win in regulation 4-3. A loss would’ve been a crusher for the Red Wings after leading 4-0. The Flyers also won on Thursday, another reason why the win was big.

Believe it or not the Red Wings are only one point behind the slumping Bruins, who have lost five straight games, for third place in the Atlantic.

This Red Wings team does have issues but the future of this team is very bright regardless of what happens the rest of this season. I do believe the Red Wings make the playoffs and, as I said in my 2016 predictions, go to the conference finals.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are still winning games despite losing Evgeni Malkin to a “upper body” injury on March 12th. The Penguins have won seven of their last 10 games and are currently a point ahead of the New York Islanders for third in the Metropolitan Division.

Here is all the information for today’s game:

As of this writing the Red Wings have not named a starter yet. It’s anybody’s guess who Jeff Blashill picks to start, but no matter who it is, the defense has to play a lot better.

The Red Wings can pass the Bruins today with a win and a Bruins loss. First things first though, beat Pittsburgh this afternoon. If the Red Wings just win games, they will be in the playoffs. They have eight games left. In my opinion if the Red Wings go 4-4 they will be the third seed in the Atlantic.
