The Detroit Red Wings, after losing to Montreal on Tuesday night, have five games left all of which are must win. They start with the Minnesota Wild today.

The Detroit Red Wings have backed themselves into a corner after losing on Tuesday to Montreal and the Philadelphia Flyers beating the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.

The only good news is the Boston Bruins are falling apart. The Red Wings trail the Bruins by a point for third in the Atlantic Division. They trail the Flyers by two points for the last Wild Card spot.

If the Red Wings are to extend that playoff streak to 25 years then they need to win at least three of these last five games. Also get points in at least four of the last five games is crucial. In my opinion the Red Wings can’t afford to lose anymore games in regulation.

A big reason for the Red Wings slide is Petr Mrazek. Since the game against Boston on his birthday were he gave up five goals, Mrazek has been shaky. He has also been pulled in several games lately, including on Tuesday against Montreal.

No starter has been named as of this writing but whoever it is has to step up and steal a couple games for this team. The defense for the Red Wings has been disappointing as well.

The Red Wings face the Wild tonight and are looking to split the season series with them. The Wild beat the Red Wings in December 3-1, so the Red Wings look to get some revenge.

Here is all the information for tonight’s game:

Helene St. James thinks that the Red Wings have to win four of the last five games. I think three wins will get them in but the Red Wings should focus on winning all five.

The Red Wings have the Wild, Leafs, Flyers, Bruins and Rangers left, so the Red Wings control their own fate. I still think they get in but time is running out.
