Detroit Tigers: Opening Day Series Game Times, TV Schedule, Live Stream
By Matt Snyder
The Detroit Tigers travel to take on the Miami Marlins on Opening Day as part of a two-game series to begin the season.
It’s not often that the Detroit Tigers break camp and head south to begin the season after spring training, but that’s what is happening this year as the Tigers stay in-state to square off with the Miami Marlins.
The Tigers turn to familiar ace Justin Verlander to take the mound on Opening Day. He was dominant down the stretch last season (2.80 ERA after the All-Star break) after starting the season on the disabled list and taking some time to get going. The Tigers will need him to return back to his old form if they hope to take home the AL Central crown in 2016.
The Marlins will counter on Opening Day with left-hander Wei-Yin Chen (formerly of the Baltimore Orioles). The Tigers will be able to stack their lineup with quality right-handed hitting this season (although they’ll be without Cameron Maybin and his broken wrist to start the season), so they’ll be licking their chops whenever they get the opportunity to face left-handed pitching.
Detroit will turn to Anibal Sanchez in game two, a player hoping to put injury concerns behind him and once again become a key member of the rotation. The Marlins will send out exciting young start Jose Fernandez in the second game of the series. The tough righty will be a big test for the Tigers’ right-handed heavy lineup.
