Sixth Round

Once upon a time, Keith Marhsall and Todd Gurley were equals in the Georgia backfield as two parts of a potent rushing attack. A knee injury and problematic recovery cost Marshall most of the 2013 and 2014 season and concerns over his health will cause him to drop in the draft.

However, Marshall turned in a combine-best 4.31 second 40-yard dash and was also one of the best running backs in the bench press with 25 reps. At 5’11” and 219 pounds, Marshall has size and speed that makes him a worth the risk and at this point in the draft, the downside is minimal.

With Brandon Pettigrew on the mend from a late-season ACL tear and Eric Ebron and Tim Wright better served working out of the slot, the Lions need an in-line tight end who can stay in to block and run the occasional route. Henry Krieger Coble was an asset to the Iowa offense in that role and could do the same for the Lions.

At this point in the draft teams are looking for players with traits to develop and who have skills that can be used in specific roles. That’s the case with Central Michigan’s Kavon Frazier who can contribute on special teams early while providing depth at safety. Frazier projects as more of a free safety but is capable of playing in the box in run support.
