Catcher: Max St. Pierre

Years with Tigers: 2010
Batting line: 9 PA, .222/.222/.333

Max St. Pierre’s story of perseverance is an inspiring one. He joined the Tigers organization as a 26th round draft pick in 1997 and debuted in rookie ball that year at the ripe age of 17.

He first reached the AAA level in 2002 but then spent eight years shuffling between AA and AAA before finally getting a major league call-up in September of 2010, his 14th season of professional baseball.

St. Pierre appeared in six games for the Tigers that season, including two starts behind the plate, and collected two hits in nine total plate appearances.

The Tigers didn’t need a catcher with Alex Avila and Gerald Laird on the roster, but St. Pierre was hit the ball well in the minors that season (.274/.353/.479) and the organization made the classy decision to give the 30-year old minor league veteran a taste of the big leagues.

St. Pierre finished his Tigers career with another year in AAA in 2011 and then played in his home province of Quebec in the independent Canadian-American Association in 2012.
