New York Yankees

First Game: May 11, 1903

Every team claims to have a rivalry with the New York Yankees from the Boston Red Sox through the Colorado Rockies, the team that has played the fewest games against the Yankees when counting regular season and World Series games.

Funny thing is, however, the Yankees’ fans probably consider the Tigers as big of rivals as do Detroit fans because of what they’ve done to them in the playoffs. In fact the Yankees are just 5-6 in playoff series/wild-card games since 2006, with half of those playoff defeats coming at the hands of Detroit.

Of course, as the Yankees did to so many teams for so many years, they provided a roadblock to success. For instance, the 1961 Detroit Tigers won 101 games and still finished eight games behind the 109-win Yankees led by Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris.
