The biggest piece of news coming out of the MLB this past week was the bench clearing brawl in Texas. For whatever reason, people love to rehash situations like this as the Texas Rangers attempted to get a little revenge following Jose Bautista’s famous “bat flip” in last year’s playoffs. Rougned Odor landed a solid right hook and will likely be spending a few weeks on the sidelines.

Max Scherzer also made history this week at the hands of our hometown Tigers. 20 strikeouts in a game has only been done 5 times in MLB history by some of the all time greats. One of the most amazing stats coming out of that performance was that he threw 96 strikes of the 119 pitches he threw. Tiger fans already were having nightmares of seeing Mike Pelfrey on the mound and now got a first hand reminder that Max was once our guy.

Speaking of the Tigers, this week was not one that gave them any positive momentum. Of course they played against two of the best teams in baseball and it showed. The Tigers are certainly not of the caliber of the Nationals and Orioles and that fact was out in the open for everyone to see as the Tigers have now lost 11 of the 15 games they have played in May.

This week’s rankings have a similar feel at the very top and the very bottom. The Braves and Twins have solidified themselves as the two worst teams in baseball while the Cubs and Nationals continue to distance themselves from the rest of the field. The Red Sox and Orioles are making a case to overtake the Nationals, but it will take a few more good weeks for that to happen.
