The Detroit Tigers got back on track with a sweep of the Minnesota Twins earlier this week. Whether it was the return home after a long road trip, the weak opponent, or simple random variation that extended the winning streak, it was a much-needed string of success for the struggling Tigers.
The Twins, however, have shown themselves to be one of the very worst teams in baseball with a 10-30 record to start the season (tied for MLB worst with the Atlanta Braves).
The Tigers will look to continue the winning streak — now at four games — when the Tampa Bay Rays come to town for a three-game weekend series. The Rays aren’t world beaters, but they’re a solid club with a 19-19 record.
It’ll be an offense vs. defense struggle as the Tigers (fifth in the AL in runs scored) will go up against a stout run-preventing Rays squad (second fewest runs allowed in the AL). The flip side of that coin is that the Rays’ offense and Tigers’ defense are respectively bottom-five in runs scored and allowed.
