All players remained on their benches the past week as the MLB continued on in the aftermath of the Toronto/Texas brawl. This week gave us some great pitching performances by some of the games best in Jake Arrieta, Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw. The San Francisco Giants are the hottest team in baseball winning 11 of their past 12 games.

On the homefront here in Detroit, the Tigers made amends for a bad week prior by doing what they should against a bad team, sweeping the Twins in convincing fashion. They also slowed down a decent team in Tampa Bay and now get to host a sneaky Philadelphia Phillies team, a phrase I never thought I would say.

Miguel Cabrera is leading the charge giving all Detroit Tigers fans something to cheer about. We know he is 33 years old, but the swing the past week looks like Miggy in his prime. He is hitting nearly .400 in the month of May (.397) and his power seems to have returned. Their upcoming schedule this month after the Phillies is the A’s and Angels on the road, two very beatable opponents.

As the White Sox start to fall back a little bit, now is the time for the Tigers to capitalize and start crawling back up the division standings.

Looking at the rest of the league, the Twins get the distinct honor of sitting 30th in the rankings finally taking over for the Braves. The New York Yankee bats finally seemed to have woken up as they are on the rise while the Cubs continue to sit atop the rankings even after a quiet week. Let’s take a look.
