Lee was perhaps the most heralded of the Lions’ UDFA signings when he joined the roster after the draft, despite the fact that the team did not give him a signing bonus. He wasn’t expected to be a UDFA in the first place; Lance Zierlein projected Lee to the fourth or fifth round in his NFL.com draft profile.

Measuring at 6’1″, 214, with long 33-inch arms, Lee started his last two seasons at Baylor and caught 101 passes for 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns over his career. He also has experience as a gunner on special teams, calling it “my thing.”

Lee signed with the Lions over four other teams, saying “This is a better fit for me, I had a relationship with the coaches. I got to do a private workout with them, got to come up here and visit and I just felt at home.”

Lee is another outside receiver with decent size and will most likely be in direct competition with Fuller and Davis for the fifth spot on the roster, assuming the Lions keep two slot receivers (likely Jones and Kerley at this point). Whoever wins that last spot can be expected to contribute right away as Matthew Stafford likes to spread the ball around to multiple receivers, and the Lions gave five different receivers at least 150 snaps last season.

In his film study on Lee for the Detroit Free Press, Alex Reno wrote, “Lee is as raw as it gets and will have to start from scratch on some of the fundamentals. But he has plenty of tools that suggest that he can develop into a solid contributor for the Lions.”
