Rod Wood has teased new uniforms for 2016 for months, but a color rush release is apparently still a month away. That and more Detroit Lions news here.

It has been nearly four months since Detroit Lions president Rod Wood revealed that the team would have a Color Rush uniform for the 2016 season. He made it sound like a grand reveal wouldn’t be far away, but here we are still waiting.

The uniforms are obviously done considering Eric Ebron teased them on twitter after getting a look. So why the delay? That’s something that can’t be blamed on the Lions as it is a league issue.

With the Color Rush program a league-wide initiative, it comes as no surprise that NFL would want to make a big event of the release instead of Color Rush uniforms being unveiled individually by teams.

Wood spoke with the media at minicamp today, touching on the subject of uniforms. Via MLive:

"“I thought (the announcement) was going to be earlier,” Wood said moments before Detroit opened its three-day minicamp in Allen Park on Tuesday. “I think they want to do everything at the same time. So I’m honoring that request.”"

The expectation is that the unveiling will take place sometime next month.

The uniforms have been the cause of much speculation, which is finally nearing an end. Will black make a return as a major player in the uniform? Maybe a lighter blue harkening back to the 80s and 90s? Perhaps an all silver look to pay homage to the Lions’ famed Silver Rush? We should know sometime in July.

Tuesday marked the start of the Lions three-day mandatory minicamp. That continues on Wednesday before finishing up on Thursday. At that point the team will be off until reporting for training camp in late July.
