First Defensive Pairing

Nicklas Lidstrom: Lidstrom was a rock for the Red Wings. He will go down as the best defenseman in not just Red Wings history but in the history of the NHL in my opinion. There will never be another defenseman like Nick. He was a very quiet player but on the ice he always seemed to be two plays ahead of the opposing team. Nick Lidstrom is a legend here in Hockeytown.

Paul Coffey: Coffey had one of the hardest shots in the league and could score. Granted, not as well as he did back in the 1980’s with the famed Edmonton Oilers, but his game changed when he got to Detroit. He became more of defense first guy but also scored his share of goals. In his three full seasons with the Red Wings he scored 14 goals in each of them and only scored less then 70 points in one of them. That season was the lockout shortened year of 1994-95. He never won a cup in Detroit but no one can deny he was a great defenseman.
