The NHL released the schedule for the 2016-17 season today.  Here is a preview of what lies ahead for the Detroit Red Wings in their final season at the Joe.

The Detroit Red Wings 2016-17 season kicks off October 13th against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Will that be Steven Stamkos first game back in Tampa as a Red Wing? A guy can dream, right?

The final home opener at Joe Louis Arena was announced yesterday as they face the Ottawa Senators on October 17th.

The annual day after Thanksgiving game is against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center.

The Red Wings longest home stand, which is five games, starts December 9th against the Columbus Blue Jackets and ends December 17th against the Anaheim Ducks.

December 29th against the Ottawa Senators start a seven game road trip for the Red Wings. Which is the longest of the season for the Red Wings.

The Red Wings play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first ever Centennial game at BMO Field in Toronto on January 1st. Due to this the Red Wings do not play the annual New Years Eve game.

The Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins make their only trip to Joe Louis Arena on January 14th.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day the Red Wings play the Montreal Canadiens at 3pm at Joe Louis Arena.

The All Star break will be from January 27th thru January 30th as the best players in the game gather in Los Angeles.

On February 21st, the Red Wings play the New York Islanders and then have their bye week. Each NHL team will have a bye week this season.

After their bye week the Red Wings go on a five game road trip that sees them go to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Boston.

The Chicago Blackhawks make their only trip to Joe Louis Arena on March 10th. Also four of the last five games for the Red Wings are at the Joe.

The last regular season home game at Joe Louis Arena is April 9th against the New Jersey Devils. Hopefully the Red Wings will have some playoff home games after that.
