Malik Beasley

Halfway through the list we start moving into prospect for which the Pistons represent more of the upper end of the projection, starting with Malik Beasley, the number 21 player on Ford’s board:

"Upside: He can hit 3s. He’s an elite athlete with explosive leaping ability. Downside: He doesn’t have a great midrange game. His defense is average. He’s a bit undersized for his position. He suffered a stress fracture that he needed surgery to repair in May. Draft range: Nos. 16-26, with the Celtics, Grizzlies, Pistons, Pacers, Hawks, Hornets and Sixers in the mix."

It’s a profile that might make most Pistons fans say “OK” but not get really excited about. Not having a great midrange game feels like an old school concern considering the increasing importance of the three point shot, which Ford notes as a strength for Beasley.

Average defense figures to be more concerning for Van Gundy and Beasley doesn’t feel like the kind of upside pick the Pistons may be after.
