Andre Drummond was a monster rebounder and improved offensively last season but struggled at the free throw line. That and more Detroit Pistons news here.

Rebounds came in bunches for Andre Drummond last season, but unfortunately so did missed free throws. Despite a breakout season that would justify making Drummond a max player on his next contract, he often had to be removed from games when teams opted to intentionally foul Drummond to send him to the free throw line rather than playing defense.

During Stan Van Gundy’s pre-draft media availability on Tuesday, the topic of Drummond’s free throw shooting came up, with SVG saying that Drummond is already working on them with the help of an under the watchful eye of the organization.

Is there reason to believe Drummond can turn himself into a functional free throw shooter? The development of his offensive game, particularly over the last year, suggests he can. Drummond entered the league as a raw offensive player but has developed some dependable low post moves to make him more than just a put-back threat on the offensive end of the floor.

Drummond and the Pistons will hope that the kind of progress he made by focusing on his offensive game last offseason will similarly pay off by focusing on his free throw shooting this offseason.
