First Base: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has participated in six consecutive All-Star Games. It appears inevitable that he’ll make it seven consecutive in 2016 (which would be his 11th career selection) with the only question being whether or not he’ll start.

Statistically, he’s the most deserving candidate. Cabrera’s 164 wRC+ (.307/.385/.547) leads all qualified American League first baseman by a fair margin. The case gets a little bit less iron clad when looking at wins above replacement, but Cabrera maintains a slight 1.9 to 1.8 WAR advantage over Chris Davis of the Orioles.
