The Detroit Tigers came into the all-star break with a 46-43 record, sitting 6.5 games back of division leading Cleveland. It doesn’t really sound too bad considering 11 of their losses have come at the hands of the Indians. 45-32 sounds like a really good team but unfortunately we don’t have the opportunity to throw out a head-to-head series.

Three games over .500 at this point in the season isn’t really encouraging but it means that there is still time for the Tigers to make a strong second half push. The Achilles heel for this team has been their pitching. Through 89 games, their team ERA sits at 4.57 which currently has them 25th in the league.

Offensively, they are virtually top 10 in every major category and that has been enough to keep them just above .500. The second half of the season provides their pitching staff a chance at redemption. The start of July has been a little bit better for this group and they will get a chance to face a struggling Kansas City team to open the second half.

Since we are at the unofficial half-way point of the season, lets hand out some awards from the first half.
