Biggest Surprise – Cameron Maybin

Most Tiger fans know the book on Maybin. He was a highly regarded prospect when the Tigers made him the 10th overall pick in 2005. He made his major league debut for the Tigers on August 17th, 2007. His tenure in Detroit was pretty short as he was moved that same year to the Marlins in the deal for Miguel Cabrera.

The years that followed left little to be excited about and Maybin was largely considered a “flop” for much of his career. The Tigers went back out and took him back prior to this year and following his return from injury, he has been nothing short of spectacular so far.

His numbers at the break are a .341 batting average with a .402 OBP. He has only 2 home runs, but has picked up 24 RBI and 10 stolen bases having played only 49 games. It will be interesting to see if he can keep his average far north of .300 for the rest of the season as he is a career .257 hitter.
