Second Half Star – Justin Verlander

Verlander has overall had a pretty decent season and been a reliable starter. He doesn’t have the same stuff he had in years past, but has proven that he can still be a tough guy to face anytime he takes the hill. He is 4-1 in his last 7 starts and has struck out 43 batters in just 45 innings.

If the Tigers are going to have any chance to make a playoff run, they are going to need to see a little vintage Verlander here over the next couple of weeks. I feel like Verlander was pitching pretty well coming into the break and should be set for a great second half.

As I stated above, the Tigers will open the second half with 6 games in a row at Comerica Park. The Royals come into this series struggling behind the plate and provide a great opportunity for the Tigers to start the second half with a sweep.
