Detroit Lions Two-Deep Depth Chart Heading Into Training Camp
By Zac Snyder
The Detroit Lions will have roster spots and playing time up for grabs in training camp but their two-deep depth chart is relatively settled.
With the Detroit Lions preparing to report to training camp, attention turns to the roster, position battles and the fight for playing time. Three of us recently went through the exercise of putting together an early 53-man roster prediction. Now it’s time for a bit of a different look with a two-deep depth chart heading in to training camp.
Pinning down a Lions depth chart has been a guessing game because the team doesn’t officially release one. Sure, you can find a depth chart on DetroitLions.com (which hasn’t been updated since the end of last season) but it is just a guess compiled by someone in the team’s media relations department.
It also doesn’t do a good job to account for real-life situations like who would come in to replace an injured player as it pegs each name into one spot rather than allowing for a player to serve as a primary backup at more than one position – left guard and right guard, for instance.
Unencumbered by those limitations, here is an early look at how I project a two-deep depth chart for the 2016 Lions as training camp begins.
