Defensive Tackle

1. Haloti Ngata
2. Tyrunn Walker

Now in year two without their former first round duo of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, it still feels like the Lions are trying to figure out life without those two. Only Gabe Wright, who was drafted last year by the old regime and may not even make the final roster, is signed beyond 2017.

The drafting of A’Shawn Robinson in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft is the only longer-term commitment the new front office has made to a defensive tackle. Haloti Ngata was retained this offseason with a new two-year deal that might end up a one year deal. Tyrunn Walker re-signed on a one-year deal and Stefan Charles signed in free agency on a one-year deal as well.

For all the uncertainty about the future, the top two defensive ends heading into training camp appear set with Ngata and Walker.

Caraun Reid and A’Shawn Robinson should be watched as candidates to break into the top two and both should be well-used in the defensive tackle rotation even if they don’t earn that promotion.
